Second report-election conference of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation (AGF) was held on December 27 at administrative building of National Olympic Committee. The conference was dedicated to the totals of the 4-year activity of AGF.
Vice president of Federation Altay Hasanov noted in report lecture after Ilham Aliyev was elected as head of NOC in 1997 and sport in Azerbaijan entered the era of rebirth in true sense of the word and international competitions were held in our country more frequently, our athletes started to win the international contests. Big progress covered the gymnastics as well. Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation that was reestablished in 2002 united rhythmic gymnastics, male sport and acrobat gymnastics and tumbling under leadership of its President Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva. President of Federation set duties for development and propaganda of this discipline of sport, assurance of its popularity, as well in regions. Care to gymnasts, sport specialists and coaches was strengthened. The latter started to attend different seminars and referee courses. Level of contests held in country was lifted, a number of sport halls were repaired. Attention paid to development of gymnastics in Azerbaijan was highly valued by International Gymnastics Federation. Several prestigious competitions were held for last 3 years in Azerbaijan on rhythmic gymnastics. First of them was World Cup Tournament held in August 2003. Our athlete Dinara Gimatova successfully performed in that tournament and it played big role in popularization of rhythmic gymnastics in Azerbaijan. Upon decision of International Federation next stages of World Cup were held in Baku in 2004 and 2005.
Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championship held in Baku in last fall became an important event. 23rd Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championship will be held in Baku next summer, June 29-July 1. Reps of European Gymnastics Union emphasize that this choice was not made in favor of Azerbaijan by chance. There were strong candidates such as Ukraine, Spain and Turkey. With that it was confessed that Baku is one rhythmic gymnastics centers of Europe. Generation of talented gymnasts like Anna Gurbanova, Aliya Garayeva, Zeynab Javadly that were distinguished in different competitions in Azerbaijan is growing.
Altay Hasanov expressed gratitude on behalf of the sport public to President of Federation for successes gained in short time in Azeri gymnastics.
Member of AGF Executive Committee, MP Rauf Aliyev, vice president of Federation Bahram Narimanov, director of Child-Youth Sport School Arif Gafarov, coach Nurlana Alizade underlined services of Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva in revival of gymnastics in Azerbaijan.
Youth and sport minister, NOC vice president Azad Rahimov talked of last achievements of Azeri sportsmen in different international contests, permanent attention rendered to development of sport by President of Azerbaijan, head of NOC Ilham Aliyev.
Organizational issues were reviewed at the conference. Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva was reelected as the President of the Federation. Elections of vice presidents, Executive Committee and members of the supervision commission of the Federation were held.
